The CAC 40 declined by 0.5% to 8,135 on Monday, continuing the downward trend from the prior week as oil prices increased following Saudi Arabia’s suspension of operations on the East-West crude pipeline due to drone attacks. The kingdom has not yet provided a timeline for the resumption of pipeline operations.
Investor caution has been further heightened as discussions between Iran and various Gulf nations regarding the establishment of a temporary shipping corridor through the Strait of Hormuz have been postponed. Notable laggards included LVMH, which declined by 1.2%, Schneider Electric, down 3.6%, and Legrand, which fell by 3.8%.
Elsewhere, STMicroelectronics experienced a decline of 3.9%, mirroring losses throughout the global technology sector following a call from major AI companies for a more measured approach to development in light of escalating safety risk concerns. In contrast, Sanofi at 1.4%, Thales at 1.0%, Dassault Systèmes at 4.1%, and Publicis at 3.3% were among the top performers.
